A Chemical
Engineering and Manufacturing Company
Directive
A toller was responsible for paying for and installing a bar-coding system.
However, the customer wanted to make sure the toller followed the customer's
standards and stayed on track with the toller's published plan.
I was brought in to manage the project from the customer's perspective.
Remarks
Ford business was at risk. The
toller had already been working with a 3rd-party software company to
customize the solution. It did not seem to the Chemical Engineering and
Manufacturing company that the toller was making progress.
I worked with the toller's 3rd-party software company customizing the
solution:
-
Ensured they adhered to the customer's standards.
-
Participated in design
reviews.
-
Facilitated weekly reviews
between the software company and the toller.
-
Identified effective and
timely resolutions for design issues that were posing as obstacles.
-
Facilitated the toller's
involvement by having them test the application regularly. I reviewed what
they were testing to ensure the system was thoroughly tested. All issues
found were communicated to, and resolved by the software company.
I provided regular reports to the management of the Chemical Engineering and
Manufacturing Company. These reports identified progress, outstanding issues, and
impacts to the time line.
Results
A first year revenue gain of about $360,000.
Net savings for 1st year was about $13,000.
The efficiency improved about 60% and accuracy went from around 60% to
nearly 100%.
ROI was less than 1 month.
